Learning With Us
Primary School provides a creative, engaging and nurturing environment for students to grow while exploring the world from a Christian perspective.
“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone.”
– Colossians 3:12-14
My name is Phill van Ryn, and I am the new Head of Primary at Launceston Christian School.
I have almost 20 years of teaching experience and I am really excited to return to Christian schooling after spending my Prep to year 10 years at Emmanuel Christian School.
I am married to Claire, and we have two wonderful children named Roman and Adelaide. My favourite pastimes include, trail running, mountain biking and fishing. I love spending time with my family and heading off on adventures together. Our biggest adventure was in 2022 when we had the opportunity to hook up the van and spend the year exploring the amazing country we live in.
I firmly believe God has called me into education. I have a passion for seeing children grow and flourish as they discover the wonderful world God has created. I believe your Primary Years should be the best years of your life and be looked back upon with great memories and I strive to provide a broad range of experiences and activities for our students.
It is really exciting to be part of the Launceston Christian School team. We are a school with a rich history but always looking to the future and what God is leading us toward.
Working alongside Mr van Ryn is our Assistant Head of Primary, Sacha Marshall. Miss Marshall has taught in the Primary School at LCS for ten years and been a teacher for twenty. She loves travelling, good food and coffee, and theatre.
Miss Marshall is a passionate educator, who enjoys spending time in educational research. She particularly recognises the importance of Christian education and the way schools like LCS can teach students the truth about God, the world, and its people.
It is her deep hope that students will grow in their understanding of who they are as children of God.
As our students progress through the Primary School, they are able to participate in a range of activities and initiatives which promote and encourage their individual God given talents and skills.
At Launceston Christian School, our Primary School teachers encourage cooperation, teamwork and provide leadership opportunities while supporting those students that need extra help.
In our classrooms there is a daily focus on Bible Study, Literacy, Numeracy, Physical Education and Pastoral Care. As our students progress through the Primary School, they are able to participate in a range of activities and initiatives which promote and encourage their individual God given talents and skills.
These activities and initiatives include leadership development with a servant emphasis, community service with the elderly and specific charity/mission support. We aim to nurture and encourage a Biblical worldview which becomes the student’s foundation for all future decisions, actions, learning and relationships.
A key element of this process is the importance of the supportive partnership between home and school. When students, parents and teachers engage with each other in a Christ centred manner the school community is affirmed and strengthened for God’s Glory.
